Privacy Policy

Octavo is operated by Munyala Eliud, trading as MEA Tech, Nairobi, Kenya (“we”). This policy covers the Octavo plugin for Obsidian and the optional Octavo Cloud service.

The plugin

The Octavo plugin runs on your device. It collects no analytics or telemetry. Your books, highlights, notes and reading positions stay in your Obsidian vault. The plugin only contacts the internet when you use a feature that needs it: Octavo Cloud (if you sign in), dictionary look-ups (Wiktionary), or an AI provider you configure yourself (requests go directly from your device to that provider under its own terms).

Octavo Cloud

If you create an account we process: your email address (for sign-in codes and receipts); books and files you upload or email to your Octavo inbox; usage counters (OCR pages, read-aloud minutes, AI requests) to apply plan limits; KOReader progress if you enable KOReader sync; and subscription status received from our payment providers. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising, and we do not use your books or notes to train AI models.

Processors

Payment details are handled by the payment providers; we never see your card number.

Retention and deletion

Uploaded books are kept until you delete them or close your account. When you close your account we delete your files and account data within 30 days, except records we must keep for tax or legal reasons. To request access, correction or deletion, email eliud@munyala.pro.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Sign-in uses one-time codes; we store only hashes of codes and session tokens.
